Protein Structure Design (Protein Folding)

Problem definition: Given a sequence of amino acids of a protein, determine the structure to which the protein folds.

Protein structure prediction is the prediction of the 3D structure of a protein from its amino acid sequence, and is one of the most important goals pursued in biotechnology. The goal is to predict sequences of amino acids that will enable a protein to perform a desired function. This problem is well known in computational biology and is currently considered as one of the "grand challenges" in this field. This field has a wide range of applications, including engineering protein therapeutics for the treatment of diseases and designing novel enzymes for drug synthesis or the production of biofuels.
